I am 50+. I graduated from school more than 30 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, for the first time as part of the\u00a0<\/span>Peero<\/b>\u00a0team, I took part in the\u00a0<\/span>BETT 2026 Exhibition and Conference in London<\/b>\u2014to be exposed, energized, and challenged by hundreds of teachers, headmasters, and school owners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Normally, exhibitions drain your energy. This one was different\u2014totally different.<\/span><\/p>\n

You meet teachers who\u00a0<\/span>give<\/span><\/i>\u00a0you energy. They challenge you and excite you at the same time. Suddenly, you feel at least 30 years younger. You\u2019re back in the classroom, remembering your own beloved teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although this was a conference dedicated to Education Technology\u2014and I expected a lot of buzz around AI\u2014to my surprise, while there was decent interest in vendors\u2019 stories, teachers were\u00a0<\/span>far less interested in AI itself<\/b>. What mattered more to them were\u00a0<\/span>human factors<\/span><\/i>: engagement, behaviour, empathy.<\/span><\/p>\n

I must admit\u2014I felt a bit lost whenever the conversation drifted too deeply into AI.<\/span><\/p>\n

Energized, yet concerned after two days at BETT, I briefly stepped away to meet three top-level representatives from one of the hyperscalers. I thought:\u00a0<\/span>This is my Eureka moment<\/span><\/i>. Thank God\u2014I will finally be enlightened with answers, tactics, and strategies on how to deploy AI in a meaningful and helpful way.<\/span><\/p>\n

What I heard instead left me wondering\u2014or perhaps even destroyed a few illusions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The representatives claimed that the lack of AI deployment in schools is mainly due to\u00a0<\/span>low interest from school leadership<\/b>\u2014that headmasters are simply not on top of it.<\/span><\/p>\n

This instantly reminded me of my early years at IBM, when Lou Gerstner had to turn the company around\u2014teaching elephants to dance. Back then, his message was clear:\u00a0<\/span>this was not the time for visions, but for strong strategies<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peero Team at BETT<\/p><\/div>\n

A strong feeling sparked in me: enough of the AI fuzz and future-of-IT hype in schools. Some countries are even reversing course, removing IT from classrooms altogether.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is almost impossible to judge whether this is right or wrong. What\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span><\/i> clear is that we are failing to properly connect technology with its users. Either we expect users to pay 100% attention, or we accept that they use less than 10% of the technology\u2019s potential\u2014because of a lack of need, skill, or belief.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like IBM back then, one of today\u2019s missing strategies for hyperscalers is to get closer to their customers: to listen, understand their needs, pains, and motivations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a world driven by shareholder value\u2014<\/span>more money, faster, who cares about the rest<\/span><\/i>\u2014it has become very difficult to invest in non-sales, non\u2013short-term revenue activities that help customers become confident, capable, and successful users.<\/span><\/p>\n

We need to think in\u00a0<\/span>decades<\/b>, not quarters.<\/span><\/p>\n

This experience further confirmed that\u00a0<\/span>Peero\u2019s 2026 mission\u2014to stay close to educators and educational institutions\u2014is not only correct, but timely<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>we will do our very best to listen, learn and share what we have, help you research the right ways\u2014<\/span>or whether at all<\/span><\/i>\u2014to adopt technology, AI in particular, and to be your advocates in how to excite, grow, and win.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let us not be surprised one day by hearing:<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cToo little, too late.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n
